The NOC Enid Jets placed 3rd in the NJCAA Division II World Series Wednesday night at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
A 3rd place finish ties the best season in school history, the Jets also placed 3rd in 2002. The Jets have three NJCAA World Series appearances.
The Jets (48-16) lost to LSU Eunice 10-1 in 7 innings, eliminating NOC Enid from the tournament.
Coach Raydon Leaton said he was very proud of his team.
"Proud of my guys and what they accomplished this season," he said. "Our sophomores will go out with 79 wins, a Region II runner up finish, Region II Champions, Plains District Champions, as high as #2 in the nation ranking, and a 3rd place World Series finish. Pretty impressive."
In Wednesday's game, the Jets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Clayton Peterson doubled and scored on an EJ Taylor single.
The lead held up until the second when LSU Eunice answered with four runs on a Koi Westbrook grand slam and LSU Eunice led 4-1.
The Bengals scored two runs each in the third, fifth and sixth innings to build a 10-1 lead.
NOC Enid managed three hits, a double by Peterson and singles by Taylor and Tyler Wood.
Jarrett Sweeney started for the Jets on the mound with relief help from Marcus Hampton, Logan Carter and Hayden Parker.
To reach the semifinals, the Jets beat Sinclair (OH) 10-6 in a Wednesday afternoon game continued from Tuesday night.
NOC Enid, ranked 8th in the final NJCAA Baseball Poll and seeded 4th in the 10 team field, was beaten twice by LSU Eunice, the tournament's top seeded team and the top ranked team in NJCAA Division II.
World Series Notes: Clayton Peterson and Dylan Caplinger led the Jets in the series with seven hits each while Tyler Wood had five. Griffin Keller and EJ Taylor had four each...Matt Conerly led the Jets in rbi's with six while Clayton Peterson added five...Braxton Douthit and Jarrett Sweeney earned wins on the mound while Rowdy Reihs earned a save.
