Scott Mansfield named NOC Enid Baseball Coach

Northern Oklahoma College has hired long time Jets' baseball assistant Scott Mansfield to lead the NOC Enid baseball program.

Mansfield replaces Raydon Leaton, who recently accepted the NOC Vice-President for Enid position.

Mansfield has been with the Jets' program nine years, serving as pitching coach.

"I am honored and grateful for the opportunity from (NOC President) Dr. Evans, (NOC Athletic Director) Coach Hise, NOC, and Coach Leaton entrusting me with the future of Jets' baseball," Mansfield said.  "I am extremely excited to continue the traditions, the success in the classroom, on the field, family dynamic and championship goals that have been built by coach Leaton and taught to me over the last nine years."

"Coach (Nolan) Fanning and I have the same expectations for our players to be a good representative of Jets baseball and NOC.  The tradition of Jet baseball will continue," he added.

President Dr. Cheryl Evans said she is excited for coach Mansfield and the future of Jets' baseball.

"Coach Mansfield has been a loyal member of the NOC family and his efforts have played an important role in the Jets' success," she said.   "He knows the players well as he helped recruit them.   I'm excited for him to have this opportunity to become head coach and look forward to another fun season ahead."

Athletic Director Jeremy Hise said he is confident that Mansfield will carry on the Jets' baseball tradition.

"Coach Mansfield is a passionate, hard-working, young man who has sacrificed much and dedicated himself to NOC, our values and our student-athletes for the past nine years," Hise said.   "There is no doubt that we would not have experienced the level of success the past several years without his service.  I am confident that he is the right person to successfully lead the program moving forward."

Former head coach Raydon Leaton added, "Scott is an excellent hire to continue the Jets' baseball tradition.  He has been the main recruiter for the last nine years and the program has experienced tremendous success on the field and in the classroom.  I'm sure the returning players as well as the freshman are excited to see him taking over the program.  He is well respected in the baseball community and he understands the culture of NOC Enid baseball."

Prior to arriving in Enid, Mansfield spent his summer as assistant coach/pitching coach for the Melville Millionaires baseball team in Melville, Saskatchewan, Canada in the Western Major Baseball League. There, he helped lead the team to a postseason appearance and finishing fourth in the league. While in Canada, the pitching staff was third in the league in total pitching.

Mansfield started his collegiate coaching career while serving one year as an assistant coach/pitching coach at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies. While at Wayland, Mansfield was a three-year lettermen playing for Coach Brad Bass. In 2006, he won the team MVP award. Prior to WBU, Mansfield attended North Lake College where he played for Coach Steve Cummings for one season. Two of Mansfield's former pitcher have been selected in the MLB draft and numerous pitchers have continued their careers at NCAA universities.
