Jets fall to Connors in Region 2 semi-finals

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- The coaching career of Greg Shamburg ended Friday night with a 79-73 loss to 12th ranked and top seed Connors in the Region 2 Semi-Finals at Oklahoma Baptist University.

The Jets led by as many seven in the first half and had a 71-70 lead with 2:23 left but Connors outscored the Jets 9-2 in the last two minutes to earn the six point win and a berth in the region finals Saturday.

"I couldn't ask anything else from our guys," Shamburg said after the game.  "We gave ourselves a chance and left it all on the court.  We just ran out of gas."

The Jets were dealt a tough blow when sophomore Sebastian Gray was injured early in the first half and played just seven minutes.

"He's so important in what we do," Shamburg said.  "I hated it for him that he couldn't play in what wound up being his final game."

NOC Enid finished the season at 16-12.

Kennan Ballance led NOC with 19 points while Tony Hall added 15 and Romio Harvey 14.

Bryshon Bryant led the Jets with 11 rebounds.  The Jets out rebounded Connors 45-33.

The Jets shot 42 percent from the field while Connors shot 44 percent.

Shamburg won 329 games at NOC Enid in 17 years.
