Lady Jets Stay Scrappy In Loss To Iowa Central

The Lady Jets fought back after falling down by four runs in the second inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 9-8 defeat to Iowa Central on Sunday. NOC tallied eight runs in the failed comeback. Lindsi SpringKelsey GammageMarrissa GibsonKyia MonahweeCourtlyn Head, and Kirsten Goodman came through with RBIs to lead the rally. NOC was right in it until Iowa Central doubled in the eighth inning. Iowa Central got things moving in the first inning. Kateina Anthony drove in two when she homered. Iowa Central evened things up at eight in the top of the seventh inning when Alyssa Dema homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. The Lady Jets put up four runs in the fifth inning. NOC's offense in the inning came from a single by Gibson, a home run by Monahwee, and a double by Gammage. Jessa May led things off on the hill for Iowa Central. She surrendered eight runs on 13 hits over eight innings, striking out nine and walking one. Brooklyn Sparkman led things off on the rubber for the Lady Jets. She lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out six. Courtney Vaughn threw three innings out of the bullpen. NOC smacked two home runs on the day. Head had a four bagger in the sixth inning. Monahwee had a long ball in the fifth inning. Iowa Central launched two home runs on the day. Anthony went yard in the first inning. Dema had a homer in the seventh inning.
