NOC Grabs Lead In Eighth Inning To Defeat Labette

NOC ran off with the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Labette on Friday. The game was tied at five with NOC batting in the top of the eighth when Kyia Monahwee singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. A four-run lead in the seventh inning was just enough for the Lady Jets to hold off Labette for the victory. Labette scored four runs in the failed comeback on a home run by Gwen Smalley, a by Rindy Marquez, a stolen base by Marquez, and a stolen base by Mikayla Mahlo. NOC got on the board in the first inning. They scored one run when Monahwee doubled. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Labette tied things up at five when Labette scored one run on a stolen base. NOC scored three runs in the seventh inning. They scored its runs on an RBI home run by MonahweeLindsi Spring earned the win for the Lady Jets. She lasted two innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out three. Abby Westmoreland toed the rubber for Labette. She went seven innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits and striking out three. Paige Jones threw one inning in relief. NOC had 14 hits in the game. MonahweeMarrissa GibsonMadi Powell, and Madeline Pitts all managed multiple hits for the Lady Jets. Gibson and Monahwee each collected three hits to lead the team. Smalley led Labette with two hits in four at bats.
