Baseball Teams Up With YWCA

On Friday, April 27th, members of the Jets baseball team participated in the YWCA's "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event. The event is put on to help bring awareness to domestic violence and sexual assault.

There is an old saying that you don't really know someone's story unless you "walk a mile in their shoes".  Walk A Mile in her shoes is an international men's march with the goal to bring awareness to the issues of sexual assault, and gender violence.  The YWCA adopted the Walk A Mile initiative and hosts the event annually as a part of Sexual Assault Awareness month in April.  It is estimated that 1 in 5 women and 1 in 59 men in the United States have been raped during his/her lifetime.  Our mission at the YWCA Enid is to not only bring awareness to the community about these crimes, but to also let the community know that these crimes will not be tolerated.  The YWCA Enid is the only domestic violence shelter in NW Oklahoma.  We provide emergency shelter, court advocacy, counseling as well as a 24-hour crisis line.  We also house the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) room where victims of rape and sexual assault come for a free forensic exam as well as medication as needed.
