NOC Enid jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hold on in a 10-6 loss to top seeded LSU Eunice Monday night in the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid.
The 4th seeded Jets (47-15) now face Sinclair (OH) in an elimination game Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Jets jumped out to an early 3-0 lead Monday when DJ Calvert reached on an error and scored on a Dylan Caplinger double to give NOC a 1-0 lead. Clayton Peterson then singled home Caplinger and the Jets led 2-0. EJ Taylor later reached on a two-out infield single and NOC led 3-0 after three innings.
LSU Eunice then took a 4-3 lead on a Hayden Mixon grand slam in the fourth and the Jets were down a run.
LSU Eunice increased the lead to 6-3 before NOC struck with a single run in the sixth. Taylor singled to right and later scored on a Caplinger single and the Jets had cut the lead to 6-4.
After the Bengals answered the Jets run with one of their own, NOC Enid rallied to 7-6 in the seventh inning when Tyler Wood doubled, followed by a walk to Griffin Keller giving NOC Enid two on with none out. Wesley O'Neilll then delivered a two out single and the Jets had cut the lead to 7-6.
LSU Eunice then answered with two runs of their own and added a run in the eighth to beat the Jets 10-6.
Caplinger and Taylor had two hits each, O'Neill and Caplinger two runs batted in each.
Rowdy Reihs started on the mound for NOC Enid allowing four runs in three innings. Reihs was backed by Lawson Isaacs, Cade Fulton and Kaleb McCullough with five innings from the Jets bullpen allowing six runs, five of them earned.
Reihs breezed through the first two innings before tap dancing out of trobule in the third when he hit a batter, then picked him off first. Later in the inning, Clayton Peterson threw out a runner at home and the Jets executed a run down on a double steal to end the inning.
If the Jets win, they face LSU Eunice Wednesday at 7 p.m.
