Jets win one of three against Des Moines Area

The NOC Enid Jets picked up one win in a hotly contested series against Des Moines Area Community College this past weekend.

The Jets (5-9) were 907 winners in Game 1 and then lost two games Saturday 4-1 and 19-14.

In Game 1, Connor Thaxton had four hits while Alec Buonasera had three hits and two runs batted in.  Ambren Voitik had a home run and a double for the Jets.  Shane Nixon added two hits as well.

Evan Kowalski tossed the first five innings allowing two runs.  Trent Ritter (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief allowing two unearned runs.  Justin Raines struck out the final DMACC hitter earning his first save.

The NOC and DMACC were tied at 5-5 when the Jets plated four runs to take a 9-5 lead, then held on for the 9-7 win.

"Once again led on the mound with Evan Kowalski giving us five strong innings and then turning it over to our bullpen who came in and threw quality innings, getting big outs for us and allowing our offense to comeback late in the game," said coach Scott Mansfield.   "Offensively, when you put up fourteen hits, you expect to score runs which our offense did. Was a well-played game between both teams, had a good atmosphere, Friday night under the lights and getting a good team win."

In Game 2, the Jets out hit DMACC 10--5 but lost 4-1.

Connor Thaxton's first inning double scored Ambren Voitik which wound up being the Jets only run.

Dylan Turner (1-2) allowed one earned run in five innings striking out five.

"Easy summary, we missed opportunities to go win a series," Mansfield said.  "Put-up double-digit hits and are only able to score a single run, you can tip your hat to the other pitcher, but we also had multiple chances to change the momentum of the game and missed those chances. Also, you make five errors in any game, going to be really hard to win a ball game like that. Dylan (Turner) and Trey (Lazenby) threw well enough to allow us to win a ballgame, unfortunately, we weren't able to get the job done."

In the series finale Saturday afternoon, the Jets once again out hit DMACC 14-8 but lost 19-14.

Voitik hit a grand slam, his second home run of the series, while Jordan Coffey added a three run shot for the Jets.

Gage Ninness had three hits for the Jets while Buonasera and Voitik had two hits each.

The Jets had a 12-7 lead in the 7th but allowed 12 DMACC runs.

"Don't really know how to put into words with how the game ended," Mansfield said.  "We let the game slip away. This one hurt. Had a chance to win the series, up seven with three outs to go, entire game changes. Walks, compounded with errors and some timely hitting by DMACC, that's a combination for bad things which we experienced. This definitely was a gut punch that took us down but we're going to get back up, iron out the details, put the necessary work in to not allow this to happen again."
