NOC Tonkawa pulls away late against the Jets

The NOC Enid Jets hung in against 12th ranked NOC Tonkawa Thursday night but a late second half run gave the Mavs a 76-56 win at the Mabee Center.

NOC Enid (7-6) fell to 1-2 in conference play while the Mavs (12-1) improved to 1-1 in OCAC play.

The Jets were led by Rance Kendrick with 19 while Zach McDermott added 18 and Ikenna Okeke 10.

"Tonkawa was the tougher team and they deserved to win tonight," said coach Aaron Butcher.  "We didn't do a good job of executing offensively which led to us shooting 30% from the field. When you do that, you better be lights out defensively and we weren't."

The Mavs jumped out to an early 13-0 lead with the Jets rallying to 29-25 toward the end of the first half.  The Mavs then built a 46-36 lead before the Jets rallied again to within 50-46 on a Kendrick traditional 3-point play.

But the Mavs then went on an 11-0 run and were never headed.
