Four RBI Day For Lexi Vargas Brings Victory For The Lady Jets Over Independence CC

Lexi Vargas was an RBI machine on Friday, driving in four on three hits to lead the Lady Jets past Independence CC 20-1 on Friday. Vargas drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the fourth, and a single in the fifth. The Lady Jets secured the victory thanks to 12 runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught came from walks by Kirsten GoodmanKelsey Gammage, and Goodman, singles by Harley Smith and Vargas, doubles by Kyia Monahwee and Smith, by Madison McClatchey, a groundout by McClatchey, and an error on a ball put in play by Gammage. The Lady Jets got things started in the first inning when Vargassingled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. The Lady Jets put up 12 runs in the fifth inning. Goodman, Gammage, McClatchy, Smith, Vargas, and Monahwee all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. Brooklyn Sparkman led the Jets to victory on the pitcher's mound. She lasted five innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out six. Gabby Horton was on the mound for Independence CC. She went three innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out two and walking zero. Kourtnee Ledbetter and Makayla Harpentered the game as relief, throwing two-thirds of an inning and one-third of an inning respectively. The Lady Jets totaled 13 hits in the game. Vargas, Smith, Gammage, Courtlyn Head, and Monahwee each managed multiple hits for the Jets. Vargas went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits.
